Christmas Bazaar

The members of the Lennoxville United Church Women (UCW) wish to thank all those who visited and shopped at our 2022 Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, November 19th. Both halls overflowed with tables of home baking, home-made candy, themed gift baskets, Holiday centerpieces, jewellery, a huge assortment of items on the Wish Table, a very well-stocked Fishpond, an amazing variety of crafts: knitting, sewing, crocheting, hand-made Christmas decorations, hand-made wooden toys and a lovely array of Attic Treasures. We were pleased to have two craft tables in the Lower Hall which showcased Christmas-themed articles and one offering "Scentsy" products. Not only did this 5-hour event raise a very satisfying amount of money which will be used by the UCW to carry out its various church and community activities, it brought our community members together for the first time in a very long time. Everyone, including our hard-working volunteers, had a wonderful time experiencing the warmth and cheer generated by people full of the pre-Christmas spirit. Thanks to each one of you for participating in this annual event; we look forward to seeing you again at our 2023 Christmas Bazaar.

Service of Hope & Inspiration
May 1, 2022 at 10:00am

Lennoxville United celebrated the service of Hope and Inspiration on Sunday, May 1st while observing all required COVID-19 precautions. Given the times in which we are still living, attendance was gratifying. Thanks to the generous support of Cass Funeral Homes each person was given a carnation to place in one of the three Vases of Hope situated on the Communion Table, in memory of loved ones, in support of family and friends experiencing the devastation of a cancer diagnosis and those who now gratefully find themselves to be cancer survivors. These carnations were also dedicated to all those whose support and care have eased the way for those making this difficult journey.

Covenanting Service was held September 25, 2016

An Act of Covenanting between the Reverend Linda Buchanan, the Congregation of Lennoxville United Church and the Consistoire Québec Presbytery of the United Church of Canada took place at Lennoxville United Church on Sunday, September 25th at 2:00 p.m. The service and ceremonies were presided over by Marc Grenon, Chair of the Québec Presbytery, David Lambie, its Secretary and the Reverend Samuel Dansokho, Plymouth Trinity United Church, Sherbrooke. Esther Barnett, Chair of the Official Board of Lennoxville United Church, expressed warm greetings to those in attendance and welcomed special invited guests, the Right Reverend Edward Symington of St. George’s Anglican Church, Lennoxville, Pastor Marc Potvin, Green Ridge Baptist Church, Reverend Heather Thomson, St. Mark’s Chapel, Bishop’s University and Claude Charron, Conseiller – Borough of Lennoxville.

Beautiful music and inspirational hymns were provided throughout the service by the combined Choirs of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Lennoxville United Church, Plymouth Trinity United Church and Bishop’s University soloist Daphnee Vandal, with Lennoxville United’s Organist and Choir Director Maryse Simard at the organ and Bishop’s University’s Fannie Gaudette at the piano. The musical highlight of the afternoon was a beautiful rendition of the anthem “O Happy Day!” by Edwin R. Hawkins.

Pat Smith and Debbie Harrison greeted the guests and congregants as they entered the Church and were seated by ushers Nancy Blair, Doug Blair and Russell Gillam. Stewards on Duty were Chrissie Mackey and Russell Gillam. Pierre Demers read the selection from the Old Testament: Exodus 16: Verses 1-15: “Bread in the Dessert” and Nancy Rowell read from the Gospel, Matthew 14: Verses 13-21 “Bread in a Deserted Place”. A most uplifting sermon was then delivered by guest preacher, the Reverend Steve Gillam from Dorval.

Following the Service of the Word the Act of Covenanting took place with promises entered into by the new minister, the Reverend Linda Buchanan, the members and adherents of the congregation of Lennoxville United Church and those representing the Québec Presbytery.

A most impressive part of the service occurred when the Symbols of the Ministry were presented to our new Minister, Linda Buchanan, by Michael Durrant and Nancy Suitor (the Bible from which to preach the Word), Glenys Groves and Dillon Everett (the Water from which to baptize into Christ), Andy & Jean Porter (the Chalice and Paten, with which to celebrate the Holy Meal) and Robert Evans and Rebecca Boire (the Quilt with which to care for the congregation).

We then took part in a Service of Thanksgiving during which the offering was dedicated to helping the work of Mission and Service which supports partners and programmes of the United Church in Canada and throughout the developing world. This was followed by the greatly anticipated message from the new minister after which the service drew to a close in usual form.

Guests and congregants gathered in the Lower Scott Hall after the Service for a time of fellowship and refreshments served by the United Church Women.

Our First Service with the Rev. Linda Buchanan

We welcomed our new minister, the Reverend Linda Buchanan, at our Sunday service on July 3rd, 2016. Introduced by Claudia Demers (Ministry and Personnel Committee) and accompanied by the pastor of Plymouth-Trinity United Church, the Reverend Samuel Dansokho, Linda joyfully built her service and her sermon around Hymn #1 in More Voices United: “Let us Build a House”. Many guests augmented our population: friends and family from Linda’s home Church, Rev. Ron Coughlin, Rev. Scott Patton, Rev. Martyn Sadler and many others who joined together to launch Linda’s new career at Lennoxville United. We were especially grateful for the large delegation from Plymouth-Trinity, Sherbrooke which will join our congregation and choir each Sunday in July while their Church is closed for the holiday period.

Following the service we gathered in the Lower Scott Hall for strawberry shortcakes and lemonade – a fitting start to the month of July!

Just a further note that Rev. Linda has organized a Thursday morning, get-acquainted, walking tour of Lennoxville to become more familiar with our lovely town, especially the area immediately surrounding Lennoxville United Church. These tours will start at 10 am each Thursday and we hope you will join Linda so that you can introduce her to your favourite places in town.

Note that our Church will be closed during the month of August and we are invited to join our friends for services at Plymouth-Trinity – at 10:30 am – on August 7th, August 14th, August 21st and August 28th, 2016.

UCW Service June 19, 2016

The regular worship service on Sunday, June 19th, 2016 was led by Kristan McKercher, who also delivered the Message, with assistance from Patricia Smith (Call to Worship and Prayer of Approach), Sandy Davidson, who read the First Lesson and the Gospel and introduced Psalm 5, and Frankie Noble, who read the Minute for Mission, called for and received the Offering and presented the Life and Work of the Congregation. Appropriately, the Bulletin was given in loving memory of a devoted member and leader of the UCW, Esther Bassett, by her equally devoted sister Shirley Bassett.
